While writing A Programmer’s Guide to Public Speaking, I thought I “should” write a Very Serious Conference Talk… and something didn’t feel right. I decided to dump the entire talk in the bin after the 5th draft, and start over again.
I’m a comedian, sharing public speaking advice with engineers. I asked myself, how would a comedian deliver this message?
Aha! I rewrote my conference talk as a stand-up set. I delivered the talk as a stand-up set.
Never write what you think you “should” say. Instead, deliver your story in your unique voice.
