Every engineer can improve their public speaking ability. And if you do, you'll run circles around your peers.
I'll let you in on a secret. You know that last conference you went to, the one with the amazing keynote speaker? That engineer wasn't born to be a great keynote speaker. They have simply done the reps.
I have been performing comedy for 12 years. One could argue that I am as unfunny as ever. Nevertheless, every show has improved my public speaking skill. Even a shy engineer like me can improve with deliberate practice.
