Crucial conversations

. 1 min read

There are only a few crucial conversations in life. It's such a shame that we don't have many opportunities to practice.

We've all been in crucial conversations. Sometimes the other person could have done better. Sometimes I could have done better.

If you like reading, I found these books to be very useful.

  • Crucial Conversations by Patterson, Grenny, McMillan, and Switzler
  • Crucial Accountability by Patterson, Grenny, and McMillan
  • Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin
  • The Dichotomy of Leadership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin

These books will make you feel uncomfortable, because they will remind you of when you've blown it.

The lessons seem simple, but they are hard to remember and apply at the crucial moment when the stakes (and emotions) are high. Keep trying, and you will notice improvement in your next crucial conversation. The payoff will be enormous, both for you and the other person.
